To add a new theme to your WordPress 2.6+, follow these basic steps:

1. Download the zip file and extract the files it contains. The unzip file contains one big folder. The name of the folder is the theme name.
2. Using an FTP client to access your host web server, create a directory to contain your theme in the wp-content/themes directory provided by WordPress. For example, a theme named mapleleaf should be in wp-content/themes/mapleleaf
   
3. Upload the theme files to the new directory on your host server.
4. Login to Wordpress, select Design -> Themes.
5. Click on the theme you would like to activate. On the top right side of the theme, click Activate + “Theme”
6. You are done. Enjoy the new look of your blog!
